The front of Caroline Elementary could get a whole new makeover with my design. The first thing that I am proposing is to change the way the bus system runs. I pushed the busses out away from school and angled the parking. This will make it safer for the kids to get on and off the bus without crossing in between parked busses. The busses have colored bumpers that correspond to the color of the parking spaces to make it easier for the children to remember which bus is theirs. I am also changing how they get to the busses. There is now a river and mounds in front of the school. A part of the river crosses between the busses and the school. Due to the river, the children now cross over bridges to get to the school or bus. The river will have water flowing during the wet season and look like river rocks during the dry season. The mounds in the front will be fully planted and have certain areas near the school that classes can take over the gardening for. This promotes stewardship amongst the students to care for their land. The plants will attract insects and birds that can be tied in with lesson plans. The site has an educational water system as well. As the water flows through the site it becomes purified. This teaches children the importance on stormwater maintenance. By the corner of the school I am proposing an interactive water wheel with buckets that catches the water that runs off the roof and allows it to infiltrate into the ground. Another thing I am proposing is the use of signs to improve safety by adding empathy and grabbing attention for the school. With the changes in this design, Caroline Elementary becomes an intriguing place to look at while driving by and a fun place to be on site.
