Elementary school is an extremely fun but critical time in a person’s early life. Entering into Pre. Kindergarten children have a decided learning style and personality already developed from interactions and knowledge gained in their lives beforehand. According to Gardner’s theory of Intelligences an individual falls into a one of nine categories. It is my designs hopes that in addition of gaining knowledge in the class room children will learn invaluable skills, lessons and build important relationships with their surroundings and peers on the playground. Attempting to facilitate these interactions the existing play structure is disassembled and reassembled across a greater swath of land to make use of the 18 acres made available by the school. By tweaking the existing structures through the addition of movable parts and natural elements each play structure responds and speaks to each intelligence type, learning style, and personality type. With hopes that children using the elements will be able to move out of their comfort zone and explore different ways to interact with their peers and their surroundings. The front of the school is also addressed in the design attempting to make a barrier between highway 79 and the school which was a concern of the clients.
