Activity 1
Draw your favorite activity to do outside.
The Activity started with the question “What do you like to do
outside?” The kids were encouraged to think about their favorite outdoor
activities. The main purpose of this question was to understand things those
kids were more likely to enjoy when playing outside. Besides that, this
question worked also as a warm up for their memory and creativity, as they were
asked to use them in the next questions.
There were five children participating on this activity. Four of them drew themselves playing some modality of sport. One of them worked with the subject of nature viewing. By analyzing this information, it is possible to say that:
1. There is a high preference for sports in the Caroline Elementary School.
2. Even though the relationship with nature just appeared in one drawing, this information is relevant because of the Caroline Elementary School terrain, which is propitious for outdoor activities that involve nature.
3. The children might have felt some level of discomfort about drawing in front of us.They just drew what they already have in their school, not bringing something creative from their life outside school.
4. It is important to purpose some changes to their reality, for example new spaces for playing, new playgrounds, innovative activities that enhance their creative skills. This can be very effective and easy to be done at Caroline Elementary School as the children seemed to be very open mind and actives.

Activity 2
Draw a leaf without tracing it
After some hesitations from the children in Activity 1, we had the children do a simple warmup: draw a leaf without tracing it. The children all knew of this activity as most of them had done this before in their classes as apart of their outdoor learning experience. We felt as a group, this activity would serve as an icebreaker to fuel the children`s imaginations for the next activity.
Activity 3
Draw your "fun palace"
In the last activity the children were supposed to draw their “fun palace”, which would be an ideal place, object or situation that they wish to become real. The result brought us a mix of imagination and reality that includes sport fields, an outdoor glass library, a trampoline, a piano, and even a dragon. Based in their major interest in sports fields we could analyze their preferences and how they are programmed to think about what is currently around them. The Glass Library shows how the children were open to new ideas and that they can see the opportunity to use the outdoor area to educational purposes. The trampoline and the piano demonstrate their creativity and variety of interests to be applied to something conceivable. Finally, the dragon represents the fairy tale world that children believe and live in and how that can and should be brought to their reality to stimulate their creativity and childhood spirt.
