Natural Education: Caroline Elementary School has a number of play facilities that would be considered standard for an elementary school. Natural education attempts to provide non-conventional play facilities that are easily installed and help develop a child’s understanding of space. I believe that if you take away the over stimulation children receive from television, music, computers, phones and even there bright florescent play grounds they will still play. Lets go back to the basics before child playthings came out of a catalog. Their environment is the optimal playground which most effectively develops there understanding of space and scale. Since the dawn of time children would search out to play with interesting features in the landscape, a mound, a hill, a hole or any other interesting feature. Natural education aim is to go back to that. With a series of three hills and two underground tunnels children can interact and engage the landscape. The entry way provides a small wetland to reduce storm water run off and, teach the children about green infrastructure.
